Is First Friday limited to the venues listed on the posters?
-No, not at all.  Anyone can do a show for First Friday and we will promote it.  Just send us the info and we will put it on the site and print material (if we get it in time & there is enough room left on the poster, only have 11x17's).

Do I have to be affiliated with the organizers to do a show on First Friday?
-Of course not.  We encourage individual shows, do it.  Promote it.  Make it awesome.  Thats the point of this event.  To grow music.  If you want to do it on your own, it makes our job that much easier.

Who's Playing?
-The future of First Friday depends upon on this very question.  We will do our best to use every resource we have to better promote each individual band.  But we must implore each band to promote their own shows as well.  Flyer, put up posters, create viral marketing campaigns (twitter, myspace, facebook), send out press releases, text blasts, call your friends & family, hit outside towns like Haysville & Derby (get those kids involved), etc...  Anybody that needs help with any aspect of this please send me (adam hartke) an email (email contact form is at the bottom of the page) and I will pass along every bit of knowledge I have to you.

Is First Friday an all ages event?
Yes.  There are always some all ages venues participating every month.  We are always working on broadening the number of all ages venues as well.

I know of a band from out of town, I would like to see them play.  Can you assist in that?
-Yes.  Again, this is your event.  If there is a band that you would love see come to Wichita, or a local band you would love to see live, please email us their info and we will attempt to get them here.  We are constantly searching for new awesome music so we can bring more shows to Wichita.

Is there a cover charge for First Friday events?
-First Friday events are usually free from 6pm-9pm.  After 9pm some venues start charging cover and that money usually goes directly to the band, so just pay it, its worth $2-$6 to see an awesome show.

Where can I find events happening outside of First Friday?
-The best place to find events going on in Wichita is www.nakedcitywichita.com/event or www.kmuw.org.

Is this event just local Wichita music?
-No.  We have had bands play from as far as New York & California.  First Friday gives touring bands a good opportunity to get a decent guarantee and have some built in promotion behind their shows, especially good for bands that have never been to Wichita and don't have a publicity budget.  This gives them and open door and assists in establishing a fan base here in Wichita.

Is the event year around?
-Yes.  It is year around.  Who cares if its cold, if there is an awesome show that I want to see, I am going to it.  Lets work to break the Wichita hibernation routine that happens in the winter months.  Snow and a cold toe wont kill you.

    • I am the Director of Vatterott College in Wichita. I am trying to find out how to host a First Friday Musical Event. I would like to speak with someont who could explain the steps to hosting an event and the cost. Do we just hire the music, let you know and you promote it? Please contact me. Mike Harris, Director, Vatterott College, 8853 East. 37th Street North, Wichita, KS 67226 (316)634-0066. Thanks.

    • Where are all the different venues. If a teen wants to play, is it inside or outside. I'm new to this site and confused how you get involved. Do you need a lot of songs? What if you are just getting started and don't have a following?

    • You say that there can be a cover charge after 9 p.m. I see this friday they are now starting to charge cover charge at 8 p.m. Do you realize that will only discourage people from attending your events. Why would we want to pay a cover charge at 4 or 5 different locations? Most people do not have the money to pay that many cover charges and the reason we were going to First Friday was the fun of visiting many locations and have a drink each place you go. I think you are headed the wrong direction if you want people to come.

    • Thanks Cristin! I will look into it!

    • I would love to see Matt Morris out of Denver come to Wichita. He is amazing! His website is www.mattmorris.net/

      Thanks!!

    • Siva would like to participate in the Art Crawl this summer in the Delano District.

We are looking for musicians that would want to play while we teach a yoga class at Siva Power Yoga, in the Delano district on the first Friday night of June and the first Friday night of August. They would play 30 minutes before class starts, an hour during class and 30 minutes after class. We are looking for acoustic music mostly...one man and his guitar. They don't have to have lyrics if they would rather not, just music is fine. We would pay them $75 for their time and they would be allowed to bring/sell and cd stuff or merchandise. If you know anyone that would be willing to talk with me more about the details, please have them FB message me or call me (316)841-9192. Nichole Head, Marketing Director Nichole@sivapoweryoga.com Thanks so much!

    • ronnie - Rock Island Live will be the rain location in case mother nature decides to be gloomy.

Sara Turner - That sounds great, I have sent you an email.

    • First off, thanks for what you guys have done for the local music scene. It is nice to be able to go out and see good bands locally and regularly.

Secondly, I'm a student at WSU studying Marketing Communications. I have an asignment where I need to pick an upcoming event and write a press release for it. I was wondering if I could e-mail a few questions. (I didn't see a contact email on the site.) Let me know if that would be alright. My e-mail is seturner@wichita.edu. Thank you!

    • what if it rains cats and dogs this friday?

    • Jenn,

All genres of music are welcome and encouraged. An acapella group would be great!
